Cheap Thrills on Jawny Bakers
By Cheap Thrills of Toronto
"Jawny Bakers is a Down Home Southwest style place near Woodbine that serves good burgers, pizzas (thin crust), pastas, and hot sandwiches. They have a pizza, sandwich, and blue plate of the day and these are always a good deal. Steak and seafood specialties will take you over the CHEAP THRILLS limit, but the rib/wing combo is a real treat. There is homemade soup every day, and the Cajun chicken club sandwich is a real winner, as is the Mediterranean salad. Wednesday is wing night, Thursday is Mexican. The fries are fresh cut and fried in vegetable oil. Meats are char-grilled and there is a healthy touch to it all rather than indulgent and greasy old-style comfort food. Everything is fresh and nicely presented. Best of all there are wonderful cakes or pies and ice cream for dessert from Laroca or Honeycrust Bakeries!
Jawny Bakers opened in 1992, and is still owned by the Zoras family (brother and sister) and it's warm and inviting with wooden floors, an open fireplace, wooden tables, and booths. There is a bar to the side (where you can eat and smoke too) if you don't want to mingle with family diners. This is a neighbourhood hangout for all and sundry, friendly and not at all pretentious but with a pleasant and engaging atmosphere and good food. When did you last indulge in cake and ice cream for dessert?" Cheap Thrills of Toronto is an independent publication hilighting Toronto's best restaurants for meals under $15.00 |
